I caved in and bought Marsedit 2.0 from Red Sweater. This does not mean that i will post much mor frequent (as you shoult notice the last Post is from August last year), but it will be much more comfortable.
Oh and yes…. Happy New Year :-)

macfuse

i have just dicovered, that there is a port of fuse for the mac called macfuse. This combined with sshfs lets you mount any ssh-availabe directory as a filesystem on your mac. That is way cool, because now, i can use all mactools on those filesystems :-)
Great stuff

Homezone

Homezone“Home Zone monitors Airport networks and Bluetooth devices in your proximity and can automatically trigger user-definable actions when configured networks or devices appear or disappear.”  I will try this beta, because this is just what i need. A system that automatically realizes that i am home or at work.

Update on Apple TV

Just a short update. The device gets really hot and has no off-Button. It can only go into standby (by pressing the play button for 5 seconds) and doesn’t do that if you have the screensaver enabled. The Apple TV itself is beautiful (as expected) and the functions are working properly.  I think the harddrive is a bit small (my music collection is about 45 gb) to really use it as a videoplayer. The slidshows are really gorgeous and the photos look great in hd, that is the one thing that really gets other people.

The eye-TV recordings work, but are a pain to convert (conversion takes quite long).

The Infrant Box can not work as an itunes server, because you have to pair an itunes with the atv.

Apple TV arrived

The TNT-Tracking announced that my Apple TV has arrived, so if my son is sound asleep tonight, i will have some time to play with it. It has only been delivered for 2 days and there are already some hacks on the net.
Just visit Apple TV Hacks to see some of them. It is possible to enable Remote Desktop and ssh. You can install a new (and bigger) harddrive. Enable the built in Apache and other stuff.
It will be interesting to see if it works with my infrant ReadyNAS NV to get my streaming iTunes Library. Their forum says it works, but i have gotten rid of the standard iTunes Streaming option and installed the beta of firefly which allows better control over the library and the service.
I do have an EyeTV 310, which is able to convert recorded movies to iTunes compatible h.264 format, so i am going to see if i can get recorded shows on it.

Great way to disable Dashboard

If you, like me, would like to disable the Dashboard, because you just don’t use it and it takes up too much memory not doing anything, you have several ways of doing just that.
1. The Code

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

into the terminal window.
2. The easy way

Go and WidgetsPrefPane

This will eliminate all your problems.
